Şov Yapmaya Devam ve Raskolnikov Sendromu | Keep Grandstanding and the Raskolnikov Syndrome

Yunanistan Başbakanı Kyriakos Mitsotakis, 2019 Temmuz ayında, Kıbrıs’a yaptığı ziyarette Türkçe konuşan Kıbrıslı örgüt temsilcileri ile görüşmek istemiş ve bize davet yapmıştı.

Yapılan daveti değerlendiren örgütlerimiz, Rumca konuşan Kıbrıslı örgüt temsilcisi arkadaşlarımızla oluşturduğumuz “Birleşik Kıbrıs İki Toplumlu Barış İnisiyatifi” altında bu görüşmeyi gerçekleştirmiştik.

Bu görüşme sonrası, “düzenden beslenenler korosu” aldıkları talimatlarla bize hakarete varan saldırılarda bulunmuştu.

Yıllar sonra, tam da Birleşmiş Milletler Genel Sekreteri’nin adaya yapacağı ziyaret öncesi, milliyetçilik batağına saplanarak, kâğıt üstünde geliştirdiği doktrinlerle Türkiye’yi maceralara sürükleyen bir emekli tümamiral bu konuyu gündeme getirerek, bilinen provokasyonları tekrarladı.

Akademik unvan taşıyan ve yıllarca üst düzeyde Türk ordusuna hizmet eden birisinin yaptığı içi boş açıklamayı dinleyince, Türkiye gibi geniş coğrafyaya ve birçok kaynağa sahip bir ülkenin dış odaklara hizmet eden, okumuş cahil insanlar yüzünden bu hale geldiğini daha iyi anladım.

Adam konuşmasında, KTÖS yetkililerinin, Yunan başbakanını ziyaret edip, Türkiye Cumhurbaşkanı Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’ı ziyaret etmediğini söyleyerek, aklınca bizlerin başkalarının çıkarlarına hizmet ettiğimizi ima edip, aşağılamaya çalışmaktadır.

“Kör nereden bilir” diye, Kıbrıs’ta kullanılan meşhur bir halk deyimini burada kullanmak uygun olacaktır.

Ne ilginçtir ki, yıllarca Amerika’nın eğittiği biri, bizim yabancı odaklara hizmet ettiğimizi ima ederek, bize çamur atarak, aşağılamaya ve hedef göstermeye çalışmaktadır.

KTÖS’te görevde olduğum dönemde, Birleşmiş Milletler Genel Sekreteri Ban Ki Moon, ABD Başkan Yardımcısı (daha sonra başkan) Joe Biden, TC Cumhurbaşkanı Abdullah Gül, Avrupa Parlamentosu Başkanı Jerzy Buzek, İngiltere Başbakanı Boris Johnson, İngiliz Dışişleri Bakanı Jack Straw, AB Komisyonu’nun birçok üyesi, ABD’li birçok senatörle, Türkiye’deki birçok parti temsilcisi ile Avrupa Parlamentosu grup başkanları ve milletvekilleri ile ve Kıbrıs’ta görevli elçilik temsilcileri ile sayısız toplantılara katılarak, Kıbrıs Türk toplumunun içine düşürüldüğü çıkmazı ve Kıbrıs’ın gerçeklerini paylaştık.

“Davetsiz yere ya davulcu ya zurnacı gider” diye bir atasözümüz vardır. Biz bu toplantılara davet alarak gittik. TC yetkilileri bize davet yapmadıkları için kendileri ile görüşmeye gitmedik.

Onlar, bizim yerimize, buyuran, biat eden ilişkisine alışmış, onların talimatlarını harfiyen yerine getiren, grasocuları, bu toplantılarda görmek istedikleri için, bizlere davet yapmadılar. Kısacası, biz davulcu ve zurnacı olmayı asla istemedik.

KTÖS’ün başında olan bugünkü yöneticiler, geçmişi inkâr eder ve bu yapılan saldırıları kabullenir gibi bu provokasyon karşısında seslerini çıkarmamayı tercih ediyorlar. Üç yıl önce bu duruştan rahatsız olduğumuz için kendileri ile toplantı yapmış ve bu ilişkileri de konuşmuştuk.

“Rumca konuşan Kıbrıslı örgütlerle ilişkileri neden zayıflattınız?” diye sorduğumuzda “Onlar faşisttir. Biz gençlerle iş birliği yapacağız” diye anlamsız fakat çok anlamlı bir cevap vermişlerdi. Sendika başkanı ise “Siz siyaset yapıyorsunuz biz siyaset yapmayacağız” demişti.

Kısacası “Biz Rumca konuşan Kıbrıslılarla ilişkiyi bitireceğiz” diye yorumlayabileceğimiz bir cevap vermişlerdi.

Yunanistan Başbakanı ile görüşmemizden rahatsız olan TC’li tümamiralin temsil ettiği zihniyet çevrelerinin talimatlarına, bugün KTÖS’ün başında oturanlar tarfından uyulduğu açıkça görülmektedir.

Geçen hafta bu konu ile ilgili yazdığımız yazı etkili olacak ki, KTÖS yetkilileri Dosteyevski’nin “Suç ve Ceza” romanının kahramanı “Raskolnikov” gibi suçlarını örtbas etmek için harekete geçtiler.

Romanda inançlar uğruna, balta ile tefeci kadını ve kız kadeşini öldüren Raskolnikov, cinayet alanını ilk ziyaret edip, sorular sorarak, suçunu gizlemeye çalışmıştı.

KTÖS yetkilileri de rejimin direktiflerine uygun hareket ettiklerini gizlemek için, Raskolnikov gibi, apar topar Rum Öğretmenler Sendikası’nı ziyaret ederek, daha önce yaptıkları gibi içi boş ortak deklarasyonu tekrar imzalamış ve bol bol resim çektirmiştir.

Bu ilişki şekli yıllar önce sınır kapıları kapalı ve Türkçe konuşan Kıbrıslılar “mandra düzeninde” yaşatılırken yapılabilendi. 23 yıl önce geçişlerin başlaması ile birlikte ilişkiler deklarasyonun ötesinde etkinliklere evrildi.

Ortak konferanslar, ortak sergiler, ortak kutlamalar, karşılıklı okul ziyaretleri, ortak ağaç dikme etkinlikleri, uluslararası toplantılara ortak ev sahipliği, dostluk maçları, Limasol’daki Türk çocukları ve öğretmenlerin sorunlarına birlikte çare üretme, Karpaz’daki Rum okullarına düzenli ortak ziyaretler ve sorunları ile ilgilenme, uluslararası toplantılarda ortak hareket, “İmagine” gibi ortak projelere katılım, Kıbrıs sorununun çözümüne yönelik çabalara destek, her ay düzenli ortak toplantı yapma ve hatta Rum eğitim bakanını protesto etmek için ortak kitlesel eyleme katılıma varan birçok alanda somut işbirlikleri yapılmış, bundan da rejim çok rahatsız olmuştu.

İki toplumlu ilişkilerin geliştirilmesi kalıcı barışa ve dostluğa hizmet eder. Türkiye yetkilileri ve kuzeyde onların kurdurduğu bu siyasi rejim için bu ilişkilerin geliştirilmesi korkulu rüyadır.

Sınırların açılmasının üstünden 23 yıl geçmiş ve bu süre içinde 150 milyondan fazla insan kuzeydeki rejimin Kıbrıslı Rumlara yönelik düzenlediği birkaç komplo hariç, hiçbir sorun yaşamadan karşılıklı olarak geçiş yapmıştır.

Bunları bile görmekten aciz, KTÖS yöneticileri önümüzdeki seçimlerde “makbul aday” olmak için rejimin istediği “uslu çocuk” rolüne devam etmektedirler.

İki toplumlu ilişkileri geliştirmek rejimle karşı karşıya gelmek demek olup, bedel ödemeyi gerektirir. Siz rejimin izin verdiği sınırlar içinde, bedel ödemeden, ancak Öğretmen Akademisi’nin önüne şov yapmak için çamaşır makinesi götürebilirsiniz.

Keep Grandstanding and the Raskolnikov Syndrome

In July 2019, during his visit to Cyprus, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his wish to meet with representatives of Turkish-speaking Cypriot organizations and extended an invitation to us. After considering the invitation, our organizations attended the meeting under the umbrella of the United Cyprus Bicommunal Peace Initiative, which we had established together with our Greek-speaking Cypriot counterparts. Following that meeting, the “chorus of those who thrive on the status quo,” acting on instructions they had received, launched attacks against us that amounted to outright insults.

Years later, just before the visit of the United Nations Secretary-General to the island, a retired rear admiral who had dragged Türkiye into risky adventures through nationalist dogmas developed on paper brought this issue back onto the agenda and repeated the familiar provocations. Listening to the empty remarks of someone who holds an academic title and served for many years in senior positions within the Turkish Armed Forces made me better understand how a country with the vast geography and abundant resources of Türkiye has reached its current state because of educated yet ignorant individuals who serve external interests.

In his remarks, he claimed that KTÖS officials met with the Greek Prime Minister but had not met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, implying that we serve the interests of others and attempting to discredit us. A well known Cypriot saying comes to mind: “How would a blind person know?” Ironically, someone who himself was trained by the United States now insinuates that we are serving foreign interests, attempting to smear, humiliate, and target us.

During my tenure at KTÖS, I attended countless meetings with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, U.S. Vice President (later President) Joe Biden, Turkish President Abdullah Gül, President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, former UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, numerous members of the European Commission, many U.S. senators, representatives of political parties in Türkiye, leaders and members of political groups in the European Parliament, and diplomatic representatives serving in Cyprus. In all these meetings, we shared both the realities of Cyprus and the deadlock into which the Turkish Cypriot community had been driven.

There is a Turkish proverb that says, “Only the drummer or the piper goes where they have not been invited.” We attended these meetings because we were invited. We never sought meetings with officials of the Republic of Türkiye because they never invited us. Instead, they preferred to meet with those who had become accustomed to a master and subordinate relationship those who faithfully carried out their instructions. In short, we never wanted to play the role of the drummer or the piper.

The current KTÖS leadership appears to deny the past and to accept these attacks by choosing to remain silent in the face of this latest provocation. Three years ago, because we were deeply concerned about this attitude, we met with them and discussed these relationships. When we asked, “Why have you weakened relations with Greek-speaking Cypriot organizations?” they replied, “They are fascists. We will cooperate with young people instead”a response that was both meaningless and highly revealing. The union president also said, “You are doing politics; we will not do politics.” In other words, their message amounted to: “We are ending our relationship with Greek-speaking Cypriots.” It is now evident that those who currently lead KTÖS are following the wishes of the same circles represented by the Turkish rear admiral who objected to our meeting with the Greek Prime Minister.

Our article on this subject last week must have struck a nerve, because KTÖS officials, like Raskolnikov the protagonist of Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment sprang into action to conceal their wrongdoing. In the novel, after murdering a pawnbroker and her sister with an axe in the name of his beliefs, Raskolnikov returns to the crime scene, asking questions in an attempt to hide his guilt. Likewise, KTÖS officials, seeking to conceal the fact that they have been acting in line with the regime’s directives, hurriedly visited the Greek Cypriot Teachers’ Union and, as they had done before, signed yet another hollow joint declaration while posing for countless photographs.

This type of relationship belonged to a time when the crossing points were closed and Turkish-speaking Cypriots were confined to what was effectively a “stockyard system.” Once the crossings opened 23 years ago, bicommunal relations evolved well beyond symbolic declarations. We organized joint conferences, exhibitions, celebrations, reciprocal school visits, tree-planting events, co-hosted international meetings, friendship matches, worked together to address the problems faced by Turkish Cypriot children and teachers in Limassol, conducted regular joint visits to Greek Cypriot schools in the Karpas Peninsula and addressed their concerns, acted together at international meetings, participated in joint projects such as Imagine, supported efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem, held regular monthly meetings, and even joined together in mass demonstrations protesting the Greek Cypriot Minister of Education. These concrete forms of cooperation deeply disturbed the regime.

Strengthening bicommunal relations serves the cause of lasting peace and friendship. For the Turkish authorities and the political regime they established in the north, however, the development of such relations is a recurring nightmare. Twenty-three years have passed since the crossing points were opened. During that time, more than 150 million crossings have taken place without incident, apart from a handful of conspiracies orchestrated by the northern regime against Greek Cypriots. Yet KTÖS leaders remain incapable of acknowledging even this reality. Instead, in an effort to become the regime’s “acceptable candidates” in the upcoming elections, they continue to play the role of the obedient child the regime expects. Building bicommunal relations means confronting the regime and that comes at a cost. If you insist on staying within the boundaries permitted by the regime and avoid paying any price, the most you can do is wheel a washing machine in front of the Teachers’ Academy as a publicity stunt.
